What is Metal Injection Moulding?

Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) is a manufacturing process that involves manipulating metal powders to behave like a plastic by mixing them with polymer binders to form a feedstock. This feedstock is used to injection mould net shaped, precision components. Parts are then thermally processed to remove the binder system and finally they are sintered to a high density metal component with comparable mechanical properties to wrought materials.

During the whole process of MIM, the first step is making feedstock. And in order to get feedstock for injection molding machine, you are going to use mixer and pelletizer.

MIXER

Mixer will be used to mix metal powder(suhc as stainless steel 304/316) and ceramic powder(such as alumina/zirconia) with kinds of polymer binders.

Pelletizer

Pelletizer will be used to pelletize the powder and binder compound which is completely mixed in mixer into granules. Then those granules are called feedstock.
